STEVE KAUFMAN ART
Thanks but no thanks

THANKS, BUT NO THANKS

Fine art painter Steve Kaufman, who once staged an outlaw party on the IRT and distributed 4 foot square Trojan wrappers to celebrate Condom Day on Nov. 2, wanted to help radio personality Howard Stern Celebrate his ratings victory in Los Angeles. He offered to drop a banner reading “Howard Stern Rules” over the big Hollywood sign out there.

He says he contacted Stern’s L.A. station manger, who asked instead if they could change the big “Hollywood” sign to “Howiewood.”

Can do he said. He in turn asked for money to buy 300 pounds of supplies to build the five- story- high letters.

No can do, said the station. We won’t spend the bucks.

 So Kaufman stayed home.
